Description
12/9/24 – This is a great example of a WW2 USAAF Type C-1 Emergency Sustenance Vest. These vests were developed during WW2 for the U.S. Army Airforce (USAAF). This type of vest saw action in WW2 with both the U.S. Navy and the USAAF. These vests when fully loaded with survival supplies weighed roughly 11 pounds. This vest however no longer has it’s survival supplies. These vests would go on to serve during WW2 and some were retained and were used in Korea and in limited quantity in Vietnam. These vests were worn under the pilots life vest, body armor, and parachute. In those aircraft with smaller more cramped cockpits these vests were contained in a bag that was attached to the pilots parachute. On top of the various labeled pockets on these vests, they also had a sewn on OD green 1911 holster. This vest is in great condition with only minor stains in some areas, and no major tears.
