Description
11/19/24 – This is an good example of a 1908 production Gewehr 98 Sawback Butcher bayonet. These are fairly scarce and desirable as they became outlawed in the Treaty of Versailles after WW1. This example is in good overall condition with some honest wear throughout. The blade has speckling patina and mild pin-pricking with light signs of sharpening along the edge, the tip also has a small chip in it. The spine of the blade is proof stamped and dated. The base of the blade is maker stamped as shown. Nice wood grips and moderate patina and oxidation on the quillon and pommel. The scabbard is made of leather, the leather is in good overall condition, but has pressure marks and light scuffs. None of which are effecting the stability of the scabbard. The metal parts on the scabbard show dark patina throughout and have a few minor dents.
