I’ve been a knife enthusiast since first going to local knife shows with my dad when I was 6 years old, but it wasn’t until around 2010 that I really got into bushcraft and started using knives a lot, then I eventually started thinking about actually designing some. So in 2012 I put pencil to paper and drew my first knives, these were all for bushcraft but I quickly moved on to broaden my approach to design and start exploring to find my style. My work quickly shifted from outdoor tools to something more influenced by my main fascination, art. Skip ahead to a year later and I began designing folders using a 2D CAD program. My intention was to look at knife design from a different angle, under a different light, with complete open mindedness to explore the boundaries of what form a knife could take on. I try and approach the process from an almost surrealistic perspective to delve into the irrational structure and non anylitic aesthetic of the subconscious and translate this into knife design. I like to implement as much sacred geometry as a design will allow naturally. I always try and focus on geometric ratios, proportion and how raw shape will relate to itself within a design. I like to utilize hyperbolic and elliptical non-euclidean geometry most of the time. This gives my designs an organic form which I find not only works best but looks and feels best. Even if it may not seem like it, my foremost objective with every model is ergonomics, this will usually dictate nearly every line on the knife. To date, I’ve designed over 200 folders. My work has evolved many times over the years and hopefully will continue to do so. I’m always trying to push the envelope in one way or another. I hope to present something in my collaborative efforts with WE knives that challenges the typical and offers something a bit more obscure, esoteric, and perhaps even perplexing.
