12/5/24 – This is a beautiful pair of engraved .36 caliber J. Tarratt percussion pistols, which feature 6-inch octagonal barrels, fixed v-notch rear sights, and silver bead front sights. The tops of the frames are marked “German Silver”, indicating they are silver-plated, and elaborately scroll-engraved. The right sides of each areÄúE / LG” proof marked, and the left side of the frames are stamped with ÄúJ. TARRATT”. The tops of the barrels are marked “London”. Checkered walnut grips include blank silver oval escutcheons at the top of the wrists, complemented by scroll-engraved trigger guards in the same style as the frame. The barrels feature an intricate Damascus finish throughout. Each butt features a hinged cap compartment for replacement screws. One pistol still has the original replacement screw inside, and the other is empty. the design is completed with swivel ramrods. The metal on these shows some very mild wear, and some patina/discoloration in a few places, but is mostly in phenomenal condition, given the age of the weapons. The wood is in similarly excellent condition, with only a few handling marks and some lightening/white coloration of the natural wood. The checkering remains almost intact. Smooth bores show oxidation throughout. These finely crafted, unserialized revolvers embody exquisite 19th-century craftsmanship, making them a stunning addition for collectors.
